Rebase, Relines, Repairs PDF Print E-mail

At Battell Denture Clinic we assess the integrity of your denture and help restore its fit, function, and appearance based on your needs.

Rebase
Rebasing is usually done when the denture teeth have not worn out in comparison to the denture base material. It is a process of retrofitting dentures by replacing all of the acrylic denture base with new acrylic, which provides a stable denture without replacing the denture teeth.

Repairs
In most cases we can restore an existing broken or cracked denture to its original state.  Repairs may be required when breakage or chipping occurs, when one or more teeth need to be added to an existing denture or because of wear and tear.  Most repairs can be done in one day.  If your denture requires a repair it may be an indication of underlying problems such as:

  • Age of the denture (Brittleness)
  • Worn Teeth
  • Poor Fit

The denturists at Battell Denture Clinic can repair your denture and best explain how to prevent denture breakage from occurring.

Relines
A denture reline involves refitting of the tissue side of the denture to custom fit to your mouth. This relining process includes: taking an impression of your mouth and gums, removing some of the acrylic from the tissue side of your denture, and adding new denture material to your existing  denture.

WHY DO DENTURES NEED TO BE RELINED?
Your mouth and gums change due to:

  • Weight Loss
  • Water Retention
  • Extractions (removal of teeth)
  • Bone Loss / Shrinkage (Bone Resorption) Aging
  • Disease
  • Illness
  • Infection
  • Medication
  • Nutrition

These conditions influence how well your denture fits.  The older the denture usually the looser it will be in your mouth.  There are ridges in your mouth that help stabilize a denture.  These ridges naturally shrink over time making the denture fit improperly.
